Analytics automation tool
Introduction
Wingtag is an automated tool to crawl a website/application for changes made to a data layer. Identifying to analysts where a code release may have created issues to the site’s tagging and subsequently, the data retrieved.
Wingtag enables users to create data layer audits from preset specifications in staging/ QA environments. The key principles for the solution were:
- Minimum user interaction (as much automation as possible)
- Simplified solution with as little jargon as possible in order to be easily adopted by all user types.
- Where technical terms (jargon), naming and symbols are used/needed, align these with existing tools (e.g google tag manager and google analytics) that the user base will be familiar with in order to reduce learnability
Prototype
Validating the design with a high fidelity prototype was necessary in order to ensure the relatively complex nature of the application (and specifically the terminology used) could be easily understood by the target user base of digital and data analysts.
User Interface
The user interface was designed with a focus on clarity and simplicity. With the amount of information served on screen it was important to present this in a way that could easily be understood by the user.
